| The Mediterranean Women's Studies Centre (KEGME), was founded in 1982 in Athens, Greece, to respond to the evolving needs of Mediterranean women both in the private and public spheres. Currently, KEGME is focusing on action-oriented research; development projects for the economic empowerment of women; skills training, networking and advocacy through new technologies (ICTs); capacity building for political leadership; conflict prevention and resolution; and the promotion of human rights, democracy and good neighbourliness in South East Europe and the Balkan region. KEGME is governed by an elected Board of Directors and is a non-governmental organization (NGO) with consultative status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). KEGME is the current Coordinating Organization of the newly formed Balkan Women's Network for Democratization and Conflict Resolution (BWNet). |
